Is Samsung S22 Worth the Money?

December 08, 2021

The long wait is coming near its conclusion – the Samsung Galaxy S22 series will be launched soon after New Year's Eve, and we couldn't be happier about it!

Yes, there is still plenty of time remaining if you are high in anticipation, but these next three months will be quite festive and generally will pass by incredibly fast for most people. And in three months – a new contender for the best smartphone on the market will emerge (well, at least based on rumors and current news).

What can we expect from S22, S22 Plus, and S22 Ultra? Will they really be that good? Is the upcoming S22 series from Samsung worth the money? Let’s check it out.

What innovations and changes from the previous S21 series to expect?

Display

According to various news and rumors, the S22 series will introduce slightly smaller and slimmer phones than those of the S21 series. The regular S22 will have a 6-inch screen, the S22 Plus will have a 6.5-inch screen, while the S22 Ultra could see a 6.8-inch screen. When compared to the S21 series, only the Ultra version will remain the same size, while the S22 regular and Plus versions will be shrunk.

In addition, all three phones will be slimmer due to smaller batteries.

When it comes to the display quality, all three phones are expected to come in UHD+ (4K) resolution, while there are talks about S22 Ultra hitting the 8K resolution, which is not unlikely as Samsung is known to put the best into the Ultra models. Also, the refresh rates of all three screens should go up to 120Hz, providing the smoothest frame transitions.

Our opinion? It is definitely an upgrade! Yes, having big screens to watch Netflix and YouTube is great, but having slimmer and smaller phones that will easily fit your pockets is better. Those who love big and powerful screens can always buy the Ultra version and enjoy watching videos maximally. Also, all three screens will have great resolution and refresh rate, which is quite an important feature to have in these times.

Cameras

One of the biggest innovations that were rumored to happen is the introduction of an amazing 200-megapixel camera to the S22 Ultra model! This would be twice as good as the S21 model, which has 108 MP, and which is already one of the best cameras on the market. Having a camera twice as good as one of the best cameras can only mean one thing – possibly the best camera ever!

Still, will it happen or will Samsung keep the good old 108 MP sensors, it remains to be seen. Be that as it may, Samsung puts the best parts in the Ultra model, and in this highly competitive market, it is quite possible to happen.

The front camera could see another new feature – the "hidden" camera. The camera behind the display has already been seen with the Z Fold 3 but the results were underwhelming. The picture quality wasn't the best and it is up to Samsung to fix this problem. It would be nice to see the front display without bezels and camera holes but not at cost of good image quality.

Our opinion? Even if the cameras remain completely the same as with the S21 series, we wouldn’t mind at all. The S21 saw some of the best image quality on the market. But if Samsung does manage to improve their cameras, which is highly likely, the plus is obvious.

Performance

CPU

Naturally, the S22 series will be run on Snapdragon (for the US and China market) and Exynos (the rest of the world) chipsets, as it usually goes with Samsung. Every year, both Snapdragon and Exynos introduce new chipsets that are faster and better than the previous ones, and this year will be no different. Hence, in the S22 series, we can expect Snapdragon 895 and Exynos 2200 chipsets to appear.

GPU

Another huge "innovation" will come in the graphics department – Samsung is ready to cooperate with a well-known AMD company and introduce their RDNA 2 architecture, the one present in Sony Playstation 5 and Xbox X consoles.

Ray Tracing

This will open the door for ray-tracing, a feature that renders lights and shadows as if in real life. This will especially be welcomed by all the gamers as ray tracing improves the gaming experience by a margin. Unfortunately, there are little to no mobile games that support ray tracing but with the introduction of S22, this may well change soon!

Battery

It has been mentioned how S22 will see smaller batteries, and that means less power when compared to the S21 series. As the Ultra model will remain the same size, the battery will likely remain the same as well with a 5,000 mAh capacity. However, the S22 and S22 Plus will have 3,700 and 4,600 mAh batteries respectively, which is quite a downgrade from the 4,000 and 4,800 that S21 and S21 Plus had. Be that as it may, smaller screens mean less power consumption, so the battery life will probably remain unchanged.

Memory

It is expected that the S22 will have 8GB RAM and 128GB storage, the S22 Plus will have 12GB RAM and 256GB storage, and the S22 Ultra 16GB RAM and 512GB storage! If you ask us, even the regular model will have enough power for everyday uses, while the Plus and Ultra models are simply beasts!

Our opinion? The S22 will bring so much power that it will crush the competition on the market! If all these unofficial news and rumors turn out to be true, the S22 series will be arguably the best!

The price

What's the best is that it is expected from the S22 series to keep the same pricing as it had with the S21! In other words – the S22 should cost $799, the S22 Plus $999, and the S22 Ultra $1199!

Will they be worth the money? Absolutely yes!

The price

New and exciting news are popping up all the time regarding the new release from Samsung and all of them just make this anticipation even bigger! Many companies are working on various gadgets and accessories, like i-Blades that has already made a protective smart case for the S22 phone!

It seems that both fans and companies alike are waiting for this release and by the looks of it, it is time to save some money for late January 2022.
