iPhone 14 Top Improvements

October 06, 2022

The long-awaited new iPhone 14 has already made its first appearance on the scene. Apple has officially introduced its new smartphone that boasts obvious improvements in the camera, screen, processor, and battery compared to previous models. Of course, also at a higher price than users expected.

The expectation created around the launch of the new iPhone 14 has left evidence that there was an enormous interest to see a new phone with great improvements over its predecessors. While sales of the iPhone 12 and 13 have continued to see strong results, enthusiasts of the company have maintained that the iPhone 11 was the best model launched so far. That's why many were looking forward to this new iPhone 14, hoping to see significant improvements.

First impressions suggest that this new model is not going to be a big leap compared to these two latest models, but with respect to the iPhone 11. That is why it is interesting to review all the improvements that incorporate the new smartphone and conclude if it complies with everything that was expected.

Great features in photo and video

One of the main improvements of the new iPhone 14 is its camera. Until now, Apple had bet by the 12 megapixels, a quality that, in this model, advances significantly thanks to the 48 megapixels of its main camera. It also has a quad-pixel sensor, 65% larger than that the iPhone 13 Pro uses. The sensor allows you to capture ProRaw with up to four times the resolution.

The camera has three lenses that are complemented by an ultra-wide angle and a telephoto lens with three times optical quality zoom. Likewise, it has a new cinematic mode to record in 4K HDR at 24 frames per second, the standard used in the film industry.

Another novelty is the incorporation of Photonic Engine, which improves the performance of photographs in low light conditions, as well as a new True Tone flash which is 10% brighter than it was with the previous models.

We also see a clear optimization on your screen, in both models with Super Retina XDR and OLED panels. In addition to having a larger 6.7-inch format, which adds to the basic 6.1 inches, on the Plus model, the top bezel disappears.

Bet on higher performance

One of the great advances that this iPhone 14 can boast of is the incorporation of the A15 Bionic processor of 4 nanometers and with about 16,000 million transistors, which allows higher performance and lower energy consumption.

Its capacity will allow up to 17 trillion operations per second, and even optimize the camera to be able to perform up to 4 billion operations per photograph. Additionally, it will be available with 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB internal storage versions.

One of the main demands of Apple users was longer battery life. Well, this point has also been optimized with greater durability, up to 29 hours of playback of video in the Pro model, and 23 for the basic model, as well as support for MagSafe wireless charging.

Another of the highlights of the new iPhone 14 is its progress in connectivity. In addition to 5G and support for the eSIM, both models have car accident detection and the possibility of communication via satellite emergency SMS.

Availability and prices

Available in five new colors (Midnight Purple, Star White, Product RED, and Blue), the new iPhone 14 hit the market on September 16 with a starting price of 799 dollars for the basic model. The iPhone 14 Plus will arrive on October 7 with a starting price of $899, depending on the configurations.

Apple fans have already shown their astonishment on social networks since, despite the fact that they expected a price increase, many Europeans, for example, did not believe that the basic model would exceed the barrier of 1,000 euros (which it does in Europe). However, the company reached that barrier a long time ago and, although subsequently, the exit models have dropped in price, on this occasion, it has opted to go upwards.

Not in vain, the latest trends in the smartphone market indicate that those 'premium' models are the least affected by the slowdown in demand due to the economic situation. With this bet, we will have to wait at least until the end of the Christmas campaign to know if this Apple's pricing strategy has been successful for the whole series and what acceptance the iPhone 14 has had in the market.

Analysis of the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max

Apple's high-end models are the ones that include the most changes compared to the previous generation.

In both the iPhone 14 Pro and the iPhone 14 Pro Max the notch disappears, that huge notch that many Apple users did not quite like. This is replaced by a slightly more discreet hole that offers a cleaner screen appearance.

A system is added that makes the lock screen appear at all times visible, to be aware of notifications at a glance and without the need to touch the screen to unlock. If we want to deactivate this mode, we just have to put the phone upside down or put it in our pocket so that the screen turns off.

To cope with the energy consumption of having a lock screen always on, Apple adds much more autonomy to the battery, which guarantees a full day without frights and without the need to recharge the device - 23 hours of video on the iPhone 14 Pro and 29 hours on the Pro Max model.

The displays of Apple's high-end terminals are Super Retina XDR and can reach a peak of 2,000 nits even in bright sunlight. In this way, the brightness is doubled compared to previous models and becomes the highest peak of smartphones on the market. All this enhances the colors and contrast of a panel that is tremendously attractive for gamers and users who consume multimedia content.

There are also improvements with HDR as HDR photos and videos get up to 1,600 nits of peak brightness, which is comparable to the image quality that we can obtain with the Pro Display XDR monitor.
