iPhone 14 vs Samsung S23 vs Pixel 7

October 24, 2022

At this time of the year, all flagship phones see their upgrades take their places. In that manner, both Apple and Google have presented their new iPhone 14 and Pixel 7 series respectively, while Samsung will present the S23 series in a few months.

But which phone will be the best one? Let’s compare them quickly.

iPhone 14

Four new iPhones were presented: iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max. Standard iPhone models mostly resemble last year's design, while Pro models bring some interesting design solutions.

In terms of displays, the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus have 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch OLED screens with a 60Hz refresh rate, but without a variable refresh rate from 1Hz to 120Hz that Pro models have.

When it comes to cameras, the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus have two 12MP cameras on the back with a wide and ultra-wide sensor, and OIS support. On the front is a 12MP TrueDepth selfie camera.

The Pro models of the iPhone 14 series have received a chipset upgrade to the Apple A16 Bionic, while the weaker two phones still use last year's Apple A15 Bionic chips. When it comes to RAM, Apple decided to increase the initial amount of memory to 6GB. Standard models get LPDDR4X memory type.

In terms of storage, Apple has decided to keep the same options as the iPhone 13 line. So the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus get 128GB, 256GB and 512GB variants.

Apple is always secretive when it comes to battery capacity and we usually find out after disassembling new iPhones. The two regular models retain 20W charging.

One of the new functions that the iPhone 14 line brings is "Emergency SOS via satellite". The function enables phone communication via satellite in situations where a standard mobile connection is not available.

One important change is visible in this year's line. There is no longer an iPhone mini model on offer, and it is being replaced this year by the iPhone 14 Plus.

The Apple iPhone 14 line arrives in several color variants (of which purple is this year's novelty for the iPhone 14 Pro), with starting prices of $799 for the iPhone 14 and $899 for the iPhone 14 Plus. The iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max models have starting prices of $999 and $1,099.

Pixel 7

Pixel devices are designed with the concept of "Personal Intelligence". In other words, apply the advances in Artificial Intelligence to the daily uses of our mobile, such as removing objects from our photos, translating menus in restaurants, and much more.

The key to this new concept is in the Tensor processor, specially designed for machine learning; the first model was released in the Pixel 6 with functions like those already mentioned, and the second generation is released in the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro. The great novelty of the Tensor G2 is the new TPU, to further improve the AI functions on our devices.

Google has also implemented Titan M2, the new security chip that raises the standards to the military level. Google also promises five years of security updates for its devices, with a promise that they are "designed to be private." To do this, first of all, the amount of data obtained has been minimized, it has been made anonymous, and access has been restricted. It is those limitations that ensure that smart features cannot be used to spy on us.

An example is a new function to detect snoring and coughing while we sleep. Sound recorded in this way is not transmitted to Google's servers, so everything will be anonymous. In addition, Pixel phones will come with a free VPN installed by default, although we will still have to wait a few months to use it and it is not clear if it will be available worldwide.

The design of the Pixel 7 shows little new, but that's good because the base made of aluminum is still just as good. As for external news, the new front camera with night mode and more resolution is the main one.

The mobile is also capable of listening to audio messages and transcribing them. Another interesting function is in the recorder app, which is now capable of transcribing a conversation, differentiating between all the people who are speaking. When in calls, the new noise cancellation function will be able to reproduce voices without background noise.

Samsung S23

Samsung should present the Samsung Galaxy S23 flagship series early next year. It is already known that the series will include three models – Samsung Galaxy S23, Samsung Galaxy S23 Plus, and Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra. These three phones will arrive as direct successors to this year's Galaxy S22 models.

One of the things that smartphone manufacturers have been working on in recent years is to make a phone with an as little bezel around the screen as possible. They are doing quite well, but it seems that Samsung has decided to take a step back in this regard.

Namely, the dimensions are, for the most part, identical to the current models, with a slight increase in width and height. Samsung decided to thicken the edges around the phone's screen. Of course, the edges are proportionately increased on all four sides, probably by 0.15 mm on all four sides of the Samsung Galaxy S23 phone, making the bezel even larger than before.

Previous reports indicate that the design, screen, cameras, and fingerprint sensor of the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23+ models will remain identical to their predecessors. Both phones, just like the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, will be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip.

These models will come with 25W chargers. According to new information, the Galaxy S23 will be powered by a battery with a capacity of 3,900 mAh, which is 200 mAh more than the S22. The Galaxy S23 Plus will have a 4,700 mAh battery, which is also a 200 mAh increase over the S22 Plus.

The presentation of the Galaxy S23 series is still a few months away, so we can expect more information until then.

Final Words

When all is summed up, all three phones bring just a tad more than their predecessors. When choosing the best one, it all comes up to three main things:

• Apple fans will definitely go with iPhone 14, which is a fantastic phone but costs the most.

• Android fans will go for Samsung’s S23, which will arguably be the best Android phone on the market.

• Those who wish to have a great phone and save some cash should buy the Pixel 7 model.
