Pixel 7 And Pixel 7 Pro Sharper Than Ever

December 22, 2022

For most, Google will never be synonymous with smartphones, but they have presented new Pixel devices this year, which are of interest to many technology enthusiasts. Google's moderate success in the mobile phone market is certainly not due to the quality of Pixel devices. This is evident when analyzing the current high-end models - Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro.

+ Improved processing power

Like Apple, Google relies on internally developed processors, equipping its latest models with its Tensor G2 and its own security chip, which are now somewhat faster and more efficient. Yes, the same processor was used for both devices. Google's services, which rely heavily on artificial intelligence, rely on the computing power offered by new processors.

- Itā€™s fast, powerful, and has unique machine learning algorithms.

+ One of the best cameras on the market

When it comes to the cameras, which has been one of the strong points of the previous Pixel phones, both devices have the same main camera on their back - an optically stabilized 50MP Samsung GN1 sensor with f/1.85 aperture, which we have already seen on the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro devices.

However, the Pixel 7 Pro has the best cameras. The ultra-wide-angle camera offers a 21 percent greater field of view. In addition, the Pro model also features a telephoto lens that enables an optical zoom level of 5x. With the help of some serious computing power, the 7 Pro can even reach 30x zoom. However, color noise is also visible.

- Pixel 7 Pro has arguably the best camera of all phones, Pixel 7 comes close.

+ Amazing photography features

Photography enthusiasts will benefit from an autofocus macro mode on the Pro that delivers stunning subjects. During various tests, the excellent autofocus capability in photos and videos was convincing.

The facial tracking features in videos are also very useful. The main camera captures sharp and colorful photos. The dynamic range is extremely high, but it doesn't feel artificial.

The "magic eraser", which was first introduced with the Pixel 6 and continues to impress a year after its release, is also powered by artificial intelligence. The Pixel 6 also convinces us with its night mode. It's been improved again on the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro for now you only have to stand still half the time compared to the previous model.

The new models allow videos with 4K resolution and 60 frames per second in all lenses. Stabilization has been optimized. In addition, Pixel devices now offer a so-called cinema mode (Full HD). Here, Google chips artificially calculate a background blur just like in real Hollywood movies.

- Although the technical values of the integrated cameras have barely changed compared to the predecessor model Pixel 6 Pro, the Pixel 7 Pro has taken a step forward in this regard, not only in contrast range, but also in color tone reproduction, exposure, and effective function to correct blur caused by motion.

+ Amazing apps and features

Pixel's exclusive app "Recorder" also relies on the AI power of Google phones, which turns spoken language into written text in real-time! Depending on the quality of the voice recording, this may not work perfectly, but it is much better than typing every word of a conversation or lecture from scratch.

The new Pixel phones also benefit from voicemail transcription capabilities. This is extremely useful when circumstances do not allow listening to a longer voice message. Unfortunately, this only works with the standard Android app for messages and not with messaging services. Google announced that it would introduce this feature with a software update and an opening of the interface.

- While cool, these features are incredibly useful, especially for students and businesspeople.

+ Newest Android experience

The two Pixel 7 models are the first smartphones to be equipped out of the box with the latest Android 13 system. Google guarantees software updates for the next five years, including three new major versions of Android.

- Both Pixel 7 phones will have the best that Android has to offer in years to come.

+/- Great display but the same one

Apart from the camera, the two models differ mainly in the screen. The 7 Pro's 6.7-inch screen offers a very high resolution of 1440 by 3120 pixels (QHD+). The technology used ensures that the content looks ultra-sharp. A high refresh rate of 120 hertz ensures fluid scrolling across the screen.

The Pixel 7's screen is slightly smaller - 1080 x 2400 pixels, with OLED technology at 416 ppi and a maximum refresh rate of 90 hertz. The difference is noticeable, but it doesn't justify the considerable price disparity between the two versions. Both phones share Gorilla Glass Victus protective glass and support for HDR10+ content playback.

- While the displays are pretty much similar as with the previous models, these are great displays with improved brightness level.

+/- Good battery life but not perfect

When it comes to autonomy, Pixel phones have batteries with a capacity of 4,355 mAh and 5,000 mAh, and they support fast charging of 30 W, wireless charging of 20 and 23 W, as well as reverse wireless charging.

Battery life is slightly longer than previous models, although the batteries have slightly less capacity. In the continuous stress test, the Pixel 7 gave up after a good ten hours, while the Pro model lasted a quarter of an hour longer. In daily use, this is more than enough to use the phone for a whole day without having to recharge it.

- The battery lasts pretty much the same as with Pixel 6 but as these new models are improved so can the autonomy be seen as improved as well.

+/- Finally facial recognition, although not perfect

Unlike the predecessor models, the new Pixel can be unlocked with facial recognition. However, Google only relies on image data from the selfie camera and, unlike Apple on the iPhone, does without additional sensors. Therefore, this unlocking method is considerably less secure than Apple's Face ID, for example.

- Finally facial recognition, although not perfect.

- The same look

While the phone got a boost inside, on the outside, the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro haven't changed much from previous models. A Google Pixel is recognizable from a distance by the distinctive camera band that runs the full width of the rear.

- Both devices retained a noble and elegant appearance.

Summary

Compared to last year's model, there are unnoticeable changes in the design that can be noted as the only disadvantage. Above all, the improvements of the camera and processing power are quite good, which distinguish these phones from their predecessors. Google is still one of the most affordable flagship models on the market.
